Free Patterns around the Web

There are so many beautiful free patterns in the web.  Crocheter these days are so lucky to have so many resources. The only source of pattern I know before was my grandma. But now the possibilities are endless. I learned crochet a long time ago, so long I could not remember how old I was. Maybe still 9 or 10. I first learned it from my aunt. But I did not decided to go on full swing with crochet until 2 years ago. When I discovered so many patterns in the web and different yarns. And how here I am, could not go on a day without a hook and yarn on my hand.
So here are some projects I made that I made for the past days. All free from the web.

1.  PARISIAN CHIQUE FAT BOTTOM BAG From A Creative Being

I've always admire Wink's crafts. And this one pattern in particular is the one that lead me to her blog. I admire this pattern so much and at long last I made my own. I made this with Balinese Cotton Yarn and a 4.5mm hook.

2. AMELIA SHAWL of Moogly

I've always love Tamara's work.  So many wonderful ideas in crochet and she shares them abundantly to all her readers. This one I love recently, I made this with Red Heart  Boutique Unforgettable in Sunrise (but my background is in sunset ).

3. CROCHET OVERSIZED OWL PILLOW by RepeatCrafterMe
I love pillows! I had this yarn from Gantsilyo.com for so long. It's Super Bulky Chenille in Candy. I don't know what to do with it. It is one of those yarns I buy because I love it but don't know what to do with it. Until I see a post from RepeatCrafterMe with this Pattern. This yarn resembles so much with  Bernat Baby Blanket. So I made it into this Pillow. And my kids could not get over how soft and cuddly it is.  This picture below was taken before I even put on the eyes of the owl.

4. BOBBLE-LICIOUS PILLOW by Yarnspirations
Oh how I love this pillow. It is so easy to make but makes up so many yarns. I want to make so many of these pillows but it's quite expensive. I used about 400 meters of yarns. But it is indeed BOBBLE-LICIOUS!

So that's it. I hope you enjoy reading this and will be inspired to make more crochet projects.  Thank you for dropping by and God bless all!

2 Strand Crochet Tote Bag

This is my 2 Strand Tote Bag. As the name goes I made this with two strands of yarn in Red Heart Love Pewter and White. But you can choose any color combination you like.

Materials:

Instructions:
Use two strands of yarn in every stitch.

R1.   Make a Magic Ring
R2.   Chain 1 then make 6 Single Crochet (SC) in ring. Join with a slip stitch (SL) in first sc of the round. Close the the ring tight. (6 SC).
R3.   Chain 1 then 2 SC in each stitch of the first round. Join with  SL in first sc of the round. (12 SC)
R4.   Chain 1 then SC in first stitch and  2 SC in next stitch. Repeat around, then join. ( 18 SC)
R5.   Chain 1 then SC in first 2 stitches and 2 SC in next stitch. Repeat around, then join.( 24 SC)
R6.   Chain 1 then SC in first 3 stitches and 2 SC in next stitch. Repeat around, then join (30 SC)
R7.   Chain 1 then SC in first 4 stitches and 2 SC in next stitch. Repeat around, then join ( 36 SC)
R8.   Chain 1 then SC in first 5 stitches and 2 SC in next stitch. Repeat around, then join ( 42 SC)
R9.   Chain 1 then SC in first 6 stitches and 2 SC in next stitch. Repeat around, then join ( 48 SC)
R10.   Chain 1 then SC in first 7 stitches and 2 SC in next stitch. Repeat around, then join ( 54 SC)
R11.   Chain 1 then SC in first 8 stitches and 2 SC in next stitch. Repeat around, then join ( 60 SC)
R12.   Chain 1 then SC in first 9 stitches and 2 SC in next stitch. Repeat around, then join ( 66 SC)
R13.   Chain 1 then SC in first 10 stitches and 2 SC in next stitch. Repeat around, then join ( 72 SC)
R14.   Chain 1 then SC in first 11 stitches and 2 SC in next stitch. Repeat around, then join ( 78 SC)
R15.   Chain 1 then SC in first 12 stitches and 2 SC in next stitch. Repeat around, then join ( 84 SC)
Break the yarn.  Make 2 of this bottom part of the bag. On the second one DO NOT BREAK the yarn.

R16.   Join the two bottom  of the bag with a SC with WRONG SIDES facing each other.
R17 - R35   Chain 1 then SC in each stitch around. (84 SC)
R36.  Chain 1 then SL in each stitch around. (84SL)

With the handles of the bag. Cut 18 strands of the yarn. For this bag I cut 18 strands on a 40 inch long. Then I separated each in three groups each with same amount of yarn. Then I braid them. Make two braided yarns for your bag.  Now your bag is ready for lining. There are so many ways to line a bag in the internet. Line your bag first before you attached the eyelets. Now with bag already lined and eyelets attached you can attached your braided handles also through the eyelets. And that's it. It is that easy. Hope you enjoy making your new bag.

Crochet Hooks

Let's talk about crochet hooks. It's one of the most important thing you should know about crochet aside from the stitches. Before starting a project you must know -
            a) Size of the hook that is needed - sometimes the one (hook size) written in the yarn label is not the one that you need for your project. So it is better to know the hook sizes. Most hook sizes are in alphabet with corresponding numbers so I call it ALPHANUMERIC. haha. But yes, most of the sizes I used have corresponding number and letters. With My favorite SUSAN BATES hooks these are the sizes from the smallest to the biggest one.

Sizes              F - 5 ;     G - 6;      H - 8;      I - 9;      J - 10      K - 12
           mm      3.75        4.5          5.00        5.5         6.00         6.5

My favorite hook number is 5.00 or H- 8 and then the 4.5 or G-6.  It is very important to know the size of your hook. Because if you are making your project out from someone else pattern, it will affect the size of your project if you just use any hook and not the hook that is required in the pattern. Especially if you are making something that is to be worn, like a hat and a shrug. Hook sizes is very important for you gauge so that you can enjoy the project that you are making.

           b) Hook design  - Yes hooks have different designs. And believe me or not it is important and it does affect your work also. Because different people have different taste and can work with each design differently. The Inline  or the Tapered.  Example of inline is the Susan Bates hooks and with the Tapered hooks are the Boye hooks. Here is a picture of how they look form Fiber Flux
I used to think that I am fine with the tapered hook. But then I discovered the inline and almost all of my problems in the way I crochet are gone. But then as I discover more yarns, I realized also that sometimes a certain hook will work fine with this particular yarn and not on any other yarn. But then in the end my favorite still is the inline hook. So know which one you can work well. Susan Bates and Boye are not that expensive. You can purchase all of them and experiment on which one you prefer the most. I actually have all of them.

So that's it. Hope this post can help you as you do your craft.

Thank you and God bless
