Dolores Hat

I named this hat after my grandmother Dolores. My grandmother was the youngest in her family. And I remember very clearly when I was young she often talked about her eldest sister Lola  Remedios. She looked up to her very much, so fortunate for us that Lola Remedios is still with us. She will be 96 this coming May! How wonderful that is. But she is already so frail, but her smile never fails every time she sees us.

I made this hat thinking of my grandmother. I could have made this for her, she taught me crochet also, but she is no longer with us. So I made this hat for Lola  Remedios and hope that she will love this. I am not sure if I could get a picture of her wearing this, but I do hope she will love this hat.

Pink Hearts Beanie

Valentine's Day is so near! I keep seeing projects with hearts on them on my timeline lately. So many beautiful projects to make this coming Heart's Day. And here is mine in time for this season. Either you can make this and give it to someone special or make it for your own.

I really like this color combination. I initially want it in Red and White but I run out of yarn and decided to make it Pink and Grey and I'm glad I did. It turn out really pretty.  And it is so easy to make also. So here is the pattern for this beanie.

Materials:
  • Yarn in Grey and Baby Pink ( RH Soft Grey ; RH SS Baby Pink)
  • H/5.0m Crochet Hook
  • I/5.5m Crochet Hook
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry Needle
  • Pompom Maker

Stitches Used:
  • st (s) - stitch (es)
  • ch - chain
  • sc - single crochet
  • sl st - slip stitch
  • BLOSC - back loop single crochet

Instruction:

Ribbing

With your H hook and your Grey Yarn.

Row 1. Chain 11, sc in the second ch from the hook. Ch 1 and turn.

Row 2. SC in first st then BLOSC in the next 8 sts, sc in last st (both loops). Ch 1 and turn.

Row 3. Repeat Row 2 until your ribbing measures 20 inches with my tension I made it up to Row 70.  You can really adjust the ribbing according to your size.

Join both ends of the ribbing and sl st them together. Do not cut your yarn and continue making the body of the hat.

Body of  the Hat

Change your hook size to I /5.0mm
Round 1. Chain 1, sc in first st and all the way around. Just try to squeeze in 84 sc into the ribbing of the hat. You can make 2 sc in a st in some stitches along the way to make all you sc a total of 84. At the end , join with a sl st in first st. (84sc)

Round 2.  Ch 1, sc in first st and all the way around. Join with a sl st in first st. (84sc)

Round 3- 18.  Ch 1, sc in first st and all the way around. Follow the graph below for your heart beanie. Round 3 is Row 19 in the picture. This is the start of your changing in color as the graph suggest. In this pattern the heart will be repeated 4 times.

Round 19-30.  With your Grey yarn continue to repeat Round 2 until round 30.

Round 31. Ch 1, *sc in first st and in next, sc decrease in next* Repeat all the way to the end. Join with a sl st in first st.

Round 32. Ch 1, * sc in first st, sc decrease in next * Repeat all the way to the end. Join with a sl st in first st.

Round 33. Ch 1, sc in first st, sc decrease in next and the rest of all the stitches. Break yarn and leave a long tail for gathering the crown or closing up the hole. Gather the crown and weave all ends.

Make your pompom in pink and grey color. I made mine more of pink. Then attached it to your beanie and your done.

Irish Spring Shrug

I've been trying to published this pattern for some time already but I could not find an appropriate name for this sweater/cover. Then someone from an FB Group suggested that I should name it after my sister since she is the one wearing/modeling it. So I name this one Irish Spring Shrug. My sister was almost 7 mos pregnant when she modeled this shrug and now it is only 3 weeks away from her due date. And so I decided to post this pattern for all of you before she give birth.

This pattern is so easy to make and fast. I used a locally bought yarn but you can use anything as long as the thickness of the yarn is the same (light # 3).
And here is the pattern:

Materials

Gauge
9dc x 3 rows = 3 inch

Size
Adult Size

Stitches used:
  • ch - chain
  • sc - single crochet
  • dc - double crochet
  • sl st - slip stitch
  • FPDC - front post double crochet
  • BPDC - back post double crochet

Instructions:

We will going to make 2 squares of granny stitches.

Square 1
Chain 87 or multiples of 3 plus 6 chains.

Row 1.  Skip 9 chains from the hook, dc in the 10th ch and in the next 2 ch. *Chain 3, skip 3 ch then 1 dc in each of the next 3 ch*. Repeat till end, ending with a chain 3 then dc in the last ch. Chain 3 and turn,

Row 2. DC 2 in the chain 3 space.  *Chain 3, skip the 3 dc , then dc 3 in chain 3 space * Repeat till end, ending with 3 dc in chain 3 space. Chain 6 and turn.

Row 3.  Skip the last 3 dc, * dc 3 in the chain 3 space, chain 3, skip the 3 dc* Repeat till end, ending with a chain 3 then dc at the last dc of previous round. Chain 3 and turn.

Row 4-26. Repeat Row 2 and 3.  Fasten off and weave all ends

Square 2

Chain 84 or multiples of 3 plus 3 chains.
Row 1.  Skip 3 chains from the hook, dc in the 4th ch and in the next ch. *Chain 3, skip 3 ch then 1 dc in each of the next 3 ch*. Repeat till end, ending with 1 dc in each of the last 3 chains. Chain6  6 and turn.

Row 2. Skip the last 3 dc, * dc 3 in the chain 3 space, chain 3, skip the 3 dc* Repeat till end, ending with a chain 3 then dc at the last dc of previous round. Chain 3 and turn.

Row 3.  DC 2 in the chain 3 space.  *Chain 3, skip the 3 dc , then dc 3 in chain 3 space * Repeat till end, ending with 3 dc in chain 3 space. Chain 6 and turn.

Row 4-26. Repeat Row 2 and 3.  Fasten off and weave all ends

Now that we have to squares let's join them together by single crocheting each st.  Making sure that the chain 3 of the first square is matched with the 3 dc of the 2nd square. There is no right side or wrong side of the squares so you can join them both freely.  Now that it is joined, the wrong side now is where your sc's.

Making the Armhole.

Fold the rectangle that we just created by joining the 2 squares together. Fold it vertically, then join both end corners together to form an armhole. SC the folded corners together, just 24 sc's.  Please refer to the figure below for better understanding.

Round 1. Now that you have your armhole, sc each stitch of the armhole using your G hook. Join with a sl st in first sc. Chain 2.

Round 2.  FPDC in first stitch, BPDC in next st. Repeat this pattern till end. Join with a sl st in first st of the round. Chain 2.

Round 3-4.  Repeat round 2.

Do this also on the other armhole.

Additional Rows
And now let's make this additional 3rows in the body of the shrug. You can see it clearly in the picture below. The instructions are as follows:

At the end of your 24 sc in the armhole, the red line in Figure B, attached  your yarn and chain 3. It doesn't matter where you join, left or right armhole, the principle is you make 3 dc in 3 chain spaces that you encounter then chain 3 and skip a granny square(3 dc) then 2 dc again in 3 chain spaces. Repeat this pattern around the inside of the whole shrug until you go back to where you started. Make 3 rounds. Fasten off and weave all end.

So I hope you all love this pattern and give it a try.
