Holiday Coasters

Wow 6 more weeks and it's Christmas already. Many of my neighbors have decorated their houses with Christmas decors already. I see so many beautiful twinkling lights along the streets. Christmas lights fascinate me so much. I love the blinking and the colors and how they danced in the cold nights.  Although we don't decorate much during Christmas Seasons, I still love the feeling of Christmas. That only season of the year that almost everyone around the world is feeling generous and loving towards each other, even to the strangers in the way.

This is not actually my first post/pattern with a Christmas or Holidays theme. I posted this Holiday Hat last month. There might be a couple more of patterns that I am going to post with the Christmas theme.

These Christmas Coasters are very easy and quick to make. It's a good yarn stash buster also. After you make all those Christmas Projects, and I am sure there will some leftover yarns that are red and green and white. These coasters are great for them to make.

Materials:

  • Red Heart Super Saver
  • H/5.00mm Crochet Hook
  • Tapestry Needle
  • Scissors

Terms Used:
  • CH(s) - Chain(s)
  • SC - Single Crochet
  • DC - Double Crochet
Notes:
  • Starting CH 2 is not counted as stitch BUT starting CH 3 will be counted as a stitch.
Instructions

R1.  Magic Ring. CH 2, 12 DC into the ring. Closed ring tightly and join with a slip stitch in first DC. (12 DC)

R2. CH 2, 2 DC in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch in first DC.(24 DC)

R3. CH 3, DC in the first stitch. * Skip a stitch, CH 1 and 2 DC in next stitch*. Repeat all the way around then join with a slip stitch on top of beginning CH 3. (24 DC, 12 CH 1 space).

R4. CH1. SC in the first stitch and in the next stitch. *SC 2 in CH 1 space of previous round, SC 1 in each of the next 2 stitches* Repeat all the way around and join with a slip stitch in first SC. (48 SC)

R5. CH 1, SC in the first stitch. *CH 3, slip stitch back on the side of the last SC you've made (this will create a picot). Refer picture below.

SC 1 in each of the next 3 stitches*. Repeat all the way around and break yarn and make an invisible join in the first SC, or you can join with a slip stitch in first SC. Fasten off and weave all ends. (16 picots)

It's the right time of the year to start making things for the coming Christmas and you can start with this simple coasters.

Bailey Slouchy Hat

This hat is made of Wattle Stitches crochet in a round. It creates a beautiful stitch pattern when you crochet in rounds like that of a hat. Not like most of the tutorials I see on YT that is in rows.

Materials:
  •  Premier Sweet Roll in Cappuccino
  • H/5.0mm Crochet Hook
  •  Tapestry Needle
  • Scissors
  • Pompom Maker
Terms Used

Instructions

R1. Foundation Single Crochet of 90 Stitches or if you are not confident with FSC you can Chain 90. Join with a slip stitch in first CH.

R2. CH 1, HDC in the first stitch. *Skip 2 stitches, SC, CH1, and DC all in the next stitch*. Repeat all the way till the end. Join with a slip stitch in the first stitch.

R2- R26.  CH 1, HDC in the first stitch. *SC, CH 1 and DC in CH 1 space of the previous round.* Repeat all the way till the end. Join with a slip stitch in the first stitch.

R27. CH 1, HDC in the first stitch. * Skip the first CH 1 space. SC, CH 1 and DC in the next CH 1 space of the previous round.* Repeat all the way till the end. Join with a slip stitch in the first stitch.

Fasten off and leave a long tail for closing the top of your hat.

Run the tail through all the stitches of Round 27 and cinched closed the hat. Fasten off and weave all ends.

Ribbing.
R1. Attached your yarn in the first stitch of your Foundation Single Crochet( the other side of your FSC). CH 1 and *SC in the first 8 stitches, SC decrease in the next 2.* Repeat all the way around and join with a slip stitch in the first stitch. You will end up with 81 SC including the decreases.

R2. CH 1, HDC in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch in the first stitch. (81 HDC)
R3- R4. CH 1 and HDC in each stitch around on the 3rd loop of the previous round. Or do the camel stitch in each stitch. Join with a slip stitch in the first stitch.
R5. Slip stitch in each stitch around on the 3rd loop of the previous round. Or do the camel stitch using slip stitches in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch in the first stitch. Make sure that your slip stitches are snug enough, but not too loose also so that you will have a perfect fit in your head for the ribbing. But it depends upon your tension just make sure that the hat fits perfectly in your head.

Do not cut the yarn first. Continue to slip stitches up to the first Round of your ribbing. Since there is a gap between the R1 and R2, slip stitch or surface slip stitch in each stitch in this round to cover the gap. Refer to the picture below.

Then fasten off and weave all your ends.  Make the pompom with your pompom maker and attached it to your hat.

FREE CROCHET PATTERNS: Sweaters, Cardigans & Jackets

The chilly winds of winter are starting to blow. It's time for sweaters and jackets to protect us from the cold. And for crocheters like me, it is the time of the year to start making them. Here are some FREE PATTERNS around the internet for you to start making for the winter. Most of them are beginner friendly and are so easy to follow.

  1. The Homebody Sweater by MegMadeWithLove.

There are so many FREE PATTERNS around the web. You can search on Google, Pinterest, and Youtube. There are so many also for beginners. It makes me wonder the endless possibilities of crochet. You can almost crochet/make anything you want. I am inspired just by looking at these pictures of sweaters and cardigans, I might make my own too.

Hope you enjoy making anyone of this project and don't forget to Tag me on Instagram and Twitter and also like my Page in Facebook, Si Nanay Madel. I would love to see what you've done and Pin it also on Pinterest.

Thank you and God bless!
