Bean Hat

I've learned an old stitch technique. It's called a Mini Bean Stitch. I've learned it from Olivia of Hopeful Honey. She creates crochet videos that is so easy to follow. And this one was a very easy one to follow. And so I decided to make a hat out of it.  And the funny thing is I don't know what to name a beanie that is made up mostly of Bean Stitches.. Beany Beanie anyone? lol . I made two version of this hat. One that is longer and one shorter.

The Shorter looks like this. Your regular beanie
And worn just as normal like this.
But with the longer one. If you continue to work more rows, it will be longer. It can be worn in different ways.
You can wear it a little slouch in the back or you can fold the ribbing and add more volume to the brim

So here is now the pattern. But before you make this one, make sure to view Hopeful Honey's video Tutorial on this stitch so that it will be easier for you.

Materials

Size
Adult Size

Stitches used:
  • ch - chain
  • sc - single crochet
  • sl st - slip stitch
  • BLO - Back Loops Only
  • bean stitch - insert hook in indicated stitch. Yarn over, pull up a loop ( 2 loops on hook), yarn over again ( 3 loops on the hook), insert hook in same stitch, yarn over pull up a loop (4 loops on hook) yarn over and pull through all loops.

Instructions:

Ribbing

ROW 1.  Chain 11, sc in 2nd chain from the hook, sc to end. ( 10 sc)

ROW 2. Chain 1, sc in first sc, sc in next 8 stitches on BLO, sc on both loops in last stitch. (10sc)

ROW 3- 72.  Repeat Row 2. Then join both ends of your ribbing by slip stitching both ends. Do not break yarn

We will be working in Rounds this time.

ROUND 1.  Chain 1, sc in first stitch and in every stitch around. ( 72 sc)

ROUND 2. Chain 2. Bean stitch in first stitch.*Chain 1, skip a stitch, then bean st in the next* Repeat all the way and do not join in the first stitch because we are going to work in rounds. End with a chain 1.

ROUND 3.  Bean st in the side of the previous bean stitch. Just like the one in the video of Hopeful Honey. Not in chain one or on top of the bean stitch. *Chain 1, bean stitch in the side of the next bean stitch.* Repeat all the way and end with chain 1.

ROUND 4- 15. ( Row 15 if you want it a little slouchy and row 12 only if you want it shorter and continue with the next round below) Repeat ROUND 3.

ROUND 16. Bean stitch in first bean, chain 1. bean stitch in the next bean stitch and chain 1.  *Skip a bean and bean stitch in next. Chain 1, bean stitch in next bean, chain 1.* Repeat till end.

ROUND 17. Bean stitch in the first bean stitch, chain 1 and bean stitch on next. Repeat all the way. End with chain 1.

ROUND 18. Bean stitch in first bean stitch, chain 1, skip 1 bean stitch. Repeat all the way and end with chain 1.

ROUND 19. Bean stitch in the first bean stitch, chain 1 and bean stitch on next. Repeat all the way. End with chain 1.

ROUND 20. Bean stitch in first bean stitch, chain 1, skip 1 bean stitch. Repeat all the way and end with chain 1.

Then gather the crown. Here is a wonderful tutorial from Moogly Blog on how to Gather the Crown.

Then add some pompom to make it  more appealing.

So that's it. I hope you all learn something and enjoy this post. If you have any questions, comments or suggestion just leave a message on the comment box and I will gladly answer them. Thank you and God bless!
