Jenny Hat

This hat is very long overdue. I was able to finish this hat last week and the pattern was supposed to be posted last week also.  But life doesn't always go the way you planned them. This week has been the most tiring and hectic week for me. So many deadlines to be meet from work since it's the beginning of the year plus a funeral we have to attend to.  I was always up until 1 in the morning and it's not my usual sleeping time. I'm not used to it that is why my body is suffering much. I don't drink coffee so I have no other means to recover but to skip work and sleep at home.  But here it is now, I am happy that after all of that I am able to post this pattern already. And I hope you'll all love it.
It's a pretty hat, the textures from the stitches are really coming together to create a beautifully textured beanie. And it's the very first time that I am making a pattern with a messy bun hat option that I've tested.

Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Messy Bun Hat Option

Fold or twist your hair tie once, and into the tie make 60 DCs. Join with a slip stitch in first DC.  Then continue with Round 6 and proceed until the ribbing pattern. But if you think that your Messy Bun Hat is just too long you can stop until Round 22, then proceed to the ribbing pattern. Please excuse my measly hair tie, I was using an old hair tie. :)

And here's the messy bun version hat that I made. It did come out good. It's my first time to really make a messy bun hat and include it in my pattern.

  3. Beautiful hat! Do you have a gauge for this pattern?

    1. I am not an expert in measuring the gauge. As you’ve noticed I did not put a gauge in most of my patterns. I usually just measure my work if someone is asking me about the gauge. Below is the details of what I’ve come up after measuring my work. I have a lot to learn about gauge.

      Gauge:
      Based on the Pattern
Round 11-16 plus 8 HDC accross = 2 inch square
      OR
2 Rounds of HDC in the 3rd loop, plus SC and CH1 round, a round of DC Clusters, plus SC and CH1 round and another HDC in the 3rd loop round AND 8 HDC accross = 2 inch square

      OR
      8 HDC in 6 rows = 2 inch square

  4. What does 3rd loop mean? Is that the back loop?

    1. No, it's not the back loop.. But it is still on the back, it's kind of the 3rd loop of an HDC. Here is a video from Moogly to better understand..

  5. What if we want to change colors? How would you change color so,the camel stitch is the different color?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Changing color is the same as changing color in other stitches. Change color as you normally do on that particular round of HDCs.

  6. How many skeins of yarn do you need, 1 or 2? And is it the Red heart soft 5oz yarn?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Yes it is Red Heart Soft 5oz. I only used 1 skein. I skein is enough.

  7. Hi! Question on the DC Cluster stitch. Do we ever want 5 loops on before we yarn over the last time? I'm slightly confused about how many times we insert the hook into the ch1 space and pull up a loop. One way I read it: y/o, insert hook in ch1 space and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook); y/o, pull through 2 loops; y/o, insert hook and pull up a loop (4 loops on hook), y/o, pull through 2 loops, y/o, insert one more time and pull up a loop (5 loops on hook); y/o and pull through all 5 loops. Or... Do I pull through all 4 loops when I have them on my hook and omit that third inserting hook in ch1 space and getting 5 loops on my hook? Hope that makes sense!

    1. Hi, thank you for the comment. I'm going to paste your comment here and insert my corrections or clarifications so that it would be easier on you.

"One way I read it: y/o, insert hook in ch1 space and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook); y/o, pull through 2 loops;(since you pull through 2 lops then you'll only have 2 loops left on your hook) y/o, insert hook and pull up a loop (4 loops on hook), y/o, pull through 2 loops(-3 loops on your hook), y/o, insert one more time and pull up a loop (5 loops on hook - so this will be 4 loops only); y/o and pull through all 5 loops( pull though all 4 loops)"

      I this helps.

  10. First let me say that I love the look of this pattern. It's super cute. But when I made this (following the pattern exactly, mind you) it ended up being about 4 sizes larger that what I was expecting it to be. Not even someone with an extra large head side could wear this and make it look normal. Did I do something wrong?

    1. hmmm... I am not sure what went wrong but we differ in the way we crochet and our tensions are different also. Different type and weight of yarns also will affect the size of your hat. Some say it's too small for them..I am not an expert on measuring the gauge but I'll share to you the gauge I had when making this hat. I only measure my work in getting the gauge for this hat. So I hope this will help..

I am doing a translation in Spanish and I would like to show it to you. I did it so that people who do not read English can perform your pattern. If you have an e-mail to send it, let me know! 15. Hi! Love this hat. I'm on round 8 and that hat is still coming out as a flat circle. Before I continue I want to make sure I am doing this right. On what round should the hat start to "bowl" and not be flat anymore? Should I start over?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi.. Sorry for the delayed response. I did not get to see your comments here... Yeah the hat should start to "bowl" at Round 7 and 8. But sometimes we differ in tension. Try one more round and see if it still a flat. If it is then start over starting Round 6 only. Hope that helps. Thanks for dropping by

  16. Hey, one thing is not clear to me: Why do we make chains in the beginning of each row, if we then chain into the first hdc, not into the chains? or do the chains count as first hdc/dc? i love this hat, but this confuses me a lot!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi Honey! Thank you for dropping by. Those chains are Starting chains, they don't count as a stitch. It is okay if you can do this hat without starting chains, just skip those chains.

  17. hello, I think your hat is really nice, I tried to follow the pattern but I am having trouble with round 8. I don't understand how many stitches i am suppose to have at the end of the round? you indicate 36 sc and 36 ch, but when i read it you say to skip a stitch? whats the total stitch count at the end? please advise

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi! Thanks for being here. Total number of stitches is 72 stitches (36 SC and 36CH1). Those CH 1's are in between the SCs.

  18. How many chains for the "magic ring" in round 1?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi! There are no Chains involved in Magic Ring. If you are not familiar with it you can just CH 4, then 12 DC into the first CH. Or you can CH3, slip stitch into the first CH to make a circle, then CH2, and made 12 DCs into that ring. Hope that helps
