Basic Mittens

Yes, I am making mittens. Can you even believe it. Well, someone went to Hongkong and wanted to have some mittens handy in case she can't handle the cold there. It's November I'm pretty sure it's cold there already but not as much as those who are experiencing snow.. But nonetheless she ordered some mittens. And so I am sharing this pattern to all of you. It's just the basic mittens, no fancy stitches.  This pattern uses RH Soft but I was able to make in RH with love and RH super saver too.. Same pattern used and it got just a little bigger, doesn't affect that much.

Mini Custard Cake

I saw a post on Facebook of a friend about her custard cake. I love custard cake, so many childhood memories with this cake. Mother used to buy them only on special occasions, on our birthday or during Christmas. It's been a long time since I ever tasted one already. And since I am baking, I did try to make one before but it was a disaster. We ended throwing it all away, and ever since that I did not attempt to make it anymore. That was a long time ago, and yesterday I decided to make one. I thought to myself that I may make this a success already given the experienced I had with baking.

I used this recipe from Panlasang Pinoy. Just watched the whole video in making this cake before attempting to bake one so that you will have the idea on how to make this cake. I remember using the same recipe before that ended in the trash can. And this time I thought of making it in small cakes, so that there is enough for everybody. There are so many tasters in our house, lol.

TIPS:
I used the cupcake pan in making this Mini Custard Cakes. In melting the sugar I used the same technique in putting the pan over the stove. And don't burn the sugar, the caramel will be bitter if you get it burned. Be very careful also because the pan will get too hot and you might get burn.  And also I used all the eggs in making the custard, not just the egg yolks, just because I don't want to waste any egg whites. And it turned out okay. Then also add a teaspoon of vanilla into the custard, it will make it tastier to eat. Let it cool completely and it is tastier if you serve it cold, so put it in the refrigerator for a while.

And look at that! It looks so yummy and pretty. It is really so yummy. The kids love it and I made two dozens of Mini Custard Cakes and also a 6 inch round cake. Everyone had their share and they all love it.

I'm so happy I made this one. I'm sure to make more in the future, probably this Christmas and the coming New Year.

So that's it. I hope you all learn something and enjoy this post. If you have any questions, comments or suggestion just leave a message on the comment box and I will gladly answer them. Thank you and God bless!

Moroccan Handbag By Tamara Kelly

I've been itching, for the whole month of November, to make a bag. A sling bag actually. I did make this Crochet Shoulder Bag but my sister got hold of it and now I am left with nothing. lol. I really want to have a handy sling bag, where I can use when I need to go somewhere quick, not a big one, just a small sling bag for my keys and wallet.

Then I came across Tamara Kelly's Moroccan Handbag. I've kind of followed her Moroccan Tile stitches, made her Moroccan Midnight Slouch Hat and I love how it looks like.  So when I came across her handbag version of the Moroccan stitches, I know this is the bag for me. But it took me a while before I even started to make it. I got caught up with so many projects this last month.

Finally I got a chance to make it before November end. Started it on the night of November 29 and was able to finished it all by the morning. It was surprisingly so quick to make. I made Tamara's Rainbow Lanyard as a sling, I love this lanyard because it is so durable and not so stretchy as a sling for a bag.
After Round 18, I continued to Round 19 with just single crochet and attached the metal rings on Round 20 for my straps. Here is where I attached the metal rings.

Round 20: SC into the first 5 sts, then attached a ring. Continue to sc including the ring into the next 8 st. Then sc into the next 25 sts. then attached the next ring. Continue to sc including the ring into the next 8 st. SC until the end of the round, then join.

Round 21.  SC each stitches, then join.

Round 22. SC in each 25 stitches, chain 12, sc back into the last sc (this will be for the button), then continue to sc all around till the end, then join.

Actually, I was just single crocheting until my last yarn. I was using my scrap yarns for this one. The Yarn I used was RH Fiesta in Black, and RH  with Love in Daffodil. So I continue to sc until Round 23.

Then I attached a big yellow button in front.. and it's done! I had fun making this bag. Now my sister wants one again.. But she wants it a little bigger. Well, I am always up for a challenge...

Thank you very much Tamara for always sharing your talent for free. You are such an inspiration and a model.

So that's it. I hope you all learn something and enjoy this post. If you have any questions, comments or suggestion just leave a message on the comment box and I will gladly answer them. Thank you and God bless!
