A Simple HDC Hat

Half Double Crochet (HDC) is one of the basic stitches in crochet. When making hats/bonnet this stitch is very reliable, it makes your hat cozier(because it is thicker than SC, or DC) and it leaves a beautiful pattern on your work.

So I decided to make a very easy HDC hat. Anyone can do this, suitable for beginners and you will be happy with the result.

Round 11-24 CH1, 1 HDC in each stitch all the way around until the end. Join with a slip stitch in the first stitch. (45,50,60,66, 72, 78HDC)
You can add more rounds if you want a more slouchy hat. You reduce the number of rounds if you don't want it slouchy. For Teenager and Adult, I stop at Round 17 and proceed to Round 25. And only added 5 rounds of HDC in the 3rd stitch.

Round 25-34. CH1, HDC in the 3rd loop in all stitches all the way around. Join with a slip stitch in the first stitch. (78HDC)  You can actually opt to join in the first stitch and continue to work in rounds. It will create a very nice continuing V-stitch like or Knit Like stitches.

Round 35. Slip stitch loosely on each stitch all the way around. Fasten off and weave in all ends. Do not tighten your slip stitches.
