Basketweave Washcloth

Since I am into post stitches these days, here is another pattern for you to practice your post stitches. This one is much easier and when you master this, cable stitches would be easy peasy. Cotton yarn is best for this project since this is a washcloth. Hope you will enjoy making this.

Materials

  • Sugar n' Cream Supersize in colors of your choice
  • H/5.0 mm crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry Needle

Stitches Used:

  • ch(s) - chain(s)
  • dc - double crochet
  • fpdc - front post double crochet
  • bpdc - back post double crochet
Here is a link to Moogly's Tutorial video for Front and Back Post-Double Crochet.
Note: Beginning chain 2 will always be counted as a stitch.

Instructions:

Row 1.  Chain 37 or a multiple of 4 plus 5 (32+5). dc in the 3rd ch from the hook and all the stitches till the end. Turn. ( 36 dc including the beginning ch2).

Row 2. Ch2, BPDC in the next 3 stitches (do not include the first st). *FPDC in the next 4 stitches, BPDC in the next 4 stitches*. Repeat till end including the beg. ch 2 of the previous round. Turn. (36 sts)

Row 3. Ch2, BPDC in the next 3 stitches (do not include the first st). *FPDC in the next 4 stitches, BPDC in the next 4 stitches*. Repeat till end including the beg. ch 2 of the previous round. Turn. (36 sts)

Row 5. Ch2, FPDC in the next 3 stitches ( do not include the first st). *BPDC in the next 4 stitches, FPDC in the next 4 stitches*. Repeat till end including the beg. ch2 or previous round. Turn. (36 sts)

Repeat Rows 2 to 5 three more times.  Fasten off and weave all ends.

That's how simple it is. You can actually add more rows if you like. This a 4x2 basket weave crochet stitch. For more of basket weave crochet stitch, Red Heart has a post all about basket weave. Here is the link.
