Bailey Slouchy Hat

This hat is made of Wattle Stitches crochet in a round. It creates a beautiful stitch pattern when you crochet in rounds like that of a hat. Not like most of the tutorials I see on YT that is in rows.

Materials:
  •  Premier Sweet Roll in Cappuccino
  • H/5.0mm Crochet Hook
  •  Tapestry Needle
  • Scissors
  • Pompom Maker
Terms Used

Instructions

R1. Foundation Single Crochet of 90 Stitches or if you are not confident with FSC you can Chain 90. Join with a slip stitch in first CH.

R2. CH 1, HDC in the first stitch. *Skip 2 stitches, SC, CH1, and DC all in the next stitch*. Repeat all the way till the end. Join with a slip stitch in the first stitch.

R2- R26.  CH 1, HDC in the first stitch. *SC, CH 1 and DC in CH 1 space of the previous round.* Repeat all the way till the end. Join with a slip stitch in the first stitch.

R27. CH 1, HDC in the first stitch. * Skip the first CH 1 space. SC, CH 1 and DC in the next CH 1 space of the previous round.* Repeat all the way till the end. Join with a slip stitch in the first stitch.

Fasten off and leave a long tail for closing the top of your hat.

Run the tail through all the stitches of Round 27 and cinched closed the hat. Fasten off and weave all ends.

Ribbing.
R1. Attached your yarn in the first stitch of your Foundation Single Crochet( the other side of your FSC). CH 1 and *SC in the first 8 stitches, SC decrease in the next 2.* Repeat all the way around and join with a slip stitch in the first stitch. You will end up with 81 SC including the decreases.

R2. CH 1, HDC in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch in the first stitch. (81 HDC)
R3- R4. CH 1 and HDC in each stitch around on the 3rd loop of the previous round. Or do the camel stitch in each stitch. Join with a slip stitch in the first stitch.
R5. Slip stitch in each stitch around on the 3rd loop of the previous round. Or do the camel stitch using slip stitches in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch in the first stitch. Make sure that your slip stitches are snug enough, but not too loose also so that you will have a perfect fit in your head for the ribbing. But it depends upon your tension just make sure that the hat fits perfectly in your head.

Do not cut the yarn first. Continue to slip stitches up to the first Round of your ribbing. Since there is a gap between the R1 and R2, slip stitch or surface slip stitch in each stitch in this round to cover the gap. Refer to the picture below.

Then fasten off and weave all your ends.  Make the pompom with your pompom maker and attached it to your hat.

    1. Hi, there is no switching in colors. That is just the color of the yarn. It's a self striping yarn.

  3. What is the weight of the yarn? I tried making a scarf with Bernat Pop twice but gave up because it was too stiff. I believe that Mandala yarn is a 3 weight. I think Scarfie is a 5. I have not seen Premier sweet roll for sale in any of my local craft stores so want to know what I can substitute.
