Sleepyhead Doll by Lanas y Ovillos

I've been eyeing to make an amigurumi, I even purchased a Craftsy Class By Stacey Trock of Fresh Stitches called Amigurumi: Woodland Animals. I learned a lot from that class but I still don't have the expertise I want with Amigurumi. I have a problem with balance, my eyes are not in the center, the bear I did from that class was looking up. I don't know why, the class is so good, the instructor is wonderful and she answers your every questions. Maybe it was too advanced for me yet, or maybe I just expect too much from me.

But I never give up, I will never give up on amigurumi. I even made my first pattern Angry Birds Amigurumi, although I can honestly say that the bird did not look like an angry bird at all...lol, but my son love it. So I searched the internet (Youtube) for an easy beginners amigurumi tutorial. And found this one by Lanas y Ovillos. It was very easy for me to follow and a good start for someone like me. I was just too ambitious in making those complicated toys.

With this one I am satisfied with the result, not that I am the only one satisfied, my niece seems to love it also. We asked her what to name the doll, she wants to call it "cappy" I think she means "Nappy" since it is a sleepy doll. And yes she takes it with her in her sleep. And I am happy that she likes it, because nothing is more satisfying to know that someone appreciates and loves my work.

So I guess my amigurumi adventure doesn't stop here, someday I will make those complicated ones... My son keeps asking for a dinosaur! Wow a dinosaur! Wish me luck on that.

Crochet Panda Shoulder Bag

I've been wanting to make this little girl a bag. But can't seem to find the right pattern. I want it to be just small. Just enough for this little one put on her little things. Then I came up with this Cute Panda Bag. The yarn I used are purchased locally. It's cotton and is 8 ply, so you can substitute any yarn with that weight and type.

Please excuse my niece's outfit. It's really not that easy to make a 2 year old model your work, even if that work is for her. So no time to change clothes or even to tie her hair. lol.

Materials

Cotton yarn (8 ply) in black and white
G /4.0 mm crochet hook
2 Metal rings
Tapestry Needle
Scissors

Stitches used:

magic ring
ch - chain
sc - single crochet
dc - double crochet
hdc - half double Crochet
sl st - slip stitch

Instructions:

Round 1. Ch 23. 2 Sc in 2nd chain from the hook, sc in each chain until the end (20 sc) with 5 sc at the last ch. Then continue on working to the other side of the chain to complete the round. Sc until the end with 3 sc in last ch, where the first 2 sc is located. Join with a sl st in first sc of the round, ch 1.

Round 2. 2 sc in each of the first 2 sc, then sc each of the next 20 sc's. 2 sc in each of the next 5 sc, then sc 20 in each stitches, 2 sc into the last 3 stitiches. Join with a sl st in first sc of the round, ch 1.

Round 3. *Sc, 2 sc * repeat 2 times, then sc 20 in each next stitches, *sc, 2sc* repeat 5 times. Sc 20 in each of the next stitches, *sc, 2 sc* 3 times. Join with a sl st in first sc of the round, ch 1.

Round 4. *Sc, sc, 2 sc * repeat 2 times, then sc 20 in each next stitches, *sc, sc, 2sc* repeat 5 times. Sc 20 in each of the next stitches, *sc, sc, 2 sc* 3 times. Join with a sl st in first sc of the round, ch 1.

Round 5. Sc in each stitches on the back loop only (BLO). Join with a sl st in first sc of the round, ch 1. (80sc)

Round 6 - 30. Sc in each stitches on both loops now. Join with a sl st in first sc of the round, ch 1.

(80 sc).

Attaching the metal rings for the strap.

Round 31. Sc in each 35 stitches, then attached the metal rings with 5 sc . ( Here's a video on how to attached metal rings. In this video I used hdc, but the principle is still the same with sc. )

Round 32. Sc in each stitches on both loops now. Join with a sl st in first sc of the round, ch 1.

(80 sc).

Fasten off and weave all ends using your tapestry needle.

For the straps.

Row 1. Attached your yarn to your metal rings and sc 5, ch 1 and turn.

Row 2-150. Sc in each stitch, chain 1 and turn. ( you can adjust the length of the straps by adding more rows or lessening the rows of 5 single crochets.) At the end. Single Crochet 5 into the other metal ring. Fasten off and weave all ends using your tapestry needle.

For the panda face.

Ears. (Make 2 pairs of circles or 4 circles )

Round 1. Make 6 sc into the magic ring . Do not join , just continue to work into the second round.

Round 2. 2 sc in each around.

Round 3. SC in first, 2 sc in next. Repeat around, then sl st into the next stitch, and and leave a long tail for sewing later. Only leave a long tail into 2 of the 4 circles.

Then with 4 circles join 2 circles by sewing them together using your tapestry needle. Do this also to the other pair. And attached your ears in the front of the bag, about 12 to 15 sc apart.

Eyes.

White eyes. Make 6 sc into the magic ring and fasten off. Make 2. Fasten off and leave a long tain for sewing

Black eyes. Make 6 sc into the magic ring. Do not join , just continue to work into the second round.

Round 2. 2 sc in first sc. Hdc, Dc in next st. 2DC in next 2 sts. Hdc, dc in next st, 2 sc in last st. (12 sts)

Round 3. SC in first 2 st. hdc, dc in next st, dc 2 in next 2 st, dc in next 2 st, dc 2 in next st, dc in next, hdc in next st, sc 2 in next 2 st.

Round 4. *sc, sc 2* repeat 2 times, *hdc, hdc2 * repeat 5 times, *sc, sc 2* repeat 2 times, then sl st into the next stitch, and and leave a long tail for sewing later

Nose.

Chain 6. SC in the 2nd chain from the hook, hdc, dc in next 2 sts, hdc, sc in last st. Chain 1 and continue to work in the other side of the chains. SC , hdc, dc in the next 2 st, hdc and sc in last. Chain and fasten off. Leave a long tail to sew later.

After all is done. Carefully sew all the pieces into the bag, using your tapestry needle. Don't forget to sew the mouth of the Panda.

Here's a another picture of my niece modeling her own bag. When I said smile, this is all that she gave me and wry smile.. lol

Oh My Hat - by Moogly

A friend of mine gave me a very wonderful yarn. Lion Brand Wool-Ease in Oxford Grey. It's my first time to take hold of a yarn like this. Seriously, I was elevated when I had it. Please excuse my ignorance, but I am living in a tropical country and most of our yarns here are made of cotton. My sister is even asking me why am I making all this crochet that I cannot use here since it's so hot and humid in here. I don't know, I just love to make anything out of my yarns, and yes sometimes chilly winds blow so I got to use them, but not all the time. There are also who order from me such things and I wonder also if they got to use it all the time.

So back to the yarn, it was given to me but it was only 1 skein of yarn. Since I want it to be wearable even in the tropics, I decided to me it into a hat. So the quest for the best pattern begins, at first I tried to make it into something I've designed myself but was disappointed because the yarn is not enough. So I've searched the internet, and so happy that the first blog I've looked upon was Moogly. So happy that when I needed a perfect pattern it was given to me immediately. Oh My Hat is perfect for the yarn I have. Perfect also for what I needed, I could use this everyday. So happy also that one skein is all I need.

I added some pompom to it. I made it by myself with some Lion Brand Bonbons Party.

So go ahead and try the pattern now on mooglyblog.com. The pattern is so easy to follow, I thought to myself first that this would be a long project because I thought the stitches were hard , but it is not. It is so easy to make. I've finished this in one seating only and I am sure that after you've finished your hat you will surely gonna say "Oh My Hat!"

Suzette Beanie

I've been working on this pattern for a week. A friend gave me a very wonderful yarn. One that I haven't had ever before. It's Lion Brand Wool-Ease in Oxford Grey. I have never had this kind of yarn, just because it's so hard to find a Lion Brand yarns here in the Philippines. I love it very much so I was thinking of making a slouchy hat out of this yarn, and even posted on Instagram a WIP.

But I was so sad because I only have a skein of that yarn and wasn't able to finish the project. It can't even finished a beanie, much more a slouchy hat. So I had to frog it and think of a new project for that yarn ( SPOILER! I found one and would post soon about it. So excited for that one)

And so I look for another yarn, long enough and soft enough for a slouchy hat. Good thing this locally bought yarn was good enough to be a replacement for this project.

The stitch is called "Suzette Stitch" and it is so easy to do but an eye catcher. It is just a combination of single crochet and double crochet.

And as you can see it's still not as slouchy as I want it to be. But then I am already happy with the result. If you have a better yarn, that can make it more slouchy go ahead and use it. My goal for this was to use only one (1) skein of yarn , but have I had more skein of the wool-ease I could have make that exemption, but no worries all things come together for good. So here is the Pattern of this hat.

Materials

Dapper Dreamer Bamboo Cotton in Lavender
I /5.5 mm crochet hook
Tapestry Needle
Scissors

Size

Adult Size

Stitches used:

ch - chain
sc - single crochet
dc - double crochet
sl st - slip stitch

Instructions:

Round 1 . Chain 80, join to the first chain. Chain 1, sc in first stitch, sc all around. Join with a sl st in first sc, chain 1.

Round 2-10. Sc all the way around. Join with a sl st in first sc, chain 1.

Round 11-24. Sc in first stitch, dc in same stitch. * skip next stitch, sc, dc in next*. Repeat * all the way around. Join with a sl st in first sc, chain 1. Leave a long tail to gather up the crown or stitch it up to close it. The pompom is optional.

Now if you want a more slouchy hat you can continue working up to your desired length.

That is all there is for this pattern. So easy and yet so pretty.

Flower Wreath

As promised here is my version of a flower wreath. So far this is the most in demand project I had. It's so cute and looks so nice not just on a little girl's head but also for grown ups. For this toturial I am using a worseted yarn, but the actual wreath is made of crochet thread like that of Aunt Lydia's. I am making this pattern as if I am using a crochet thread.

But the pictures you will see is of a worseted yarn. I was having a hard time taking pictures of those so little thread. So I made this tutorial with a bigger yarn for better visual. So here's the pattern:

Materials:

Yarn - For this tutorial I made it with a worsted yarn. But for the actual wreath it is made of crochet thread like the one of Aunt Lydia's.
Crochet hook - 1.5mm. But for this tutorial it is a G/4.0mm
Scissors
Tapestry Needle

Stitches Used:

st(s) - stitch(es)
ch - chain
sc- single crochet
dc - double crochet
sl st - slip stitch

Instructions

Chain 20. Sl st in the first chain to creat a loop.

This loop will serve as our adjuster. Then ch20 again, plus ch 5. Sl st in the 6th chain from the hook.

Then Make 12 sc into that small loop.

Sl st in the first st. *Chain 2, skip 1, sc in the next st. * Repeat this process until you will have 6 small loops around.

Sl st in first st. *Sl st into the loop, ch 1, 5dc, ch 1 and sl st back into the loop. * Repeat this process again on all 6 small loops, this will be the first set of petals for our flower.

Then ch 1, and insert your hook in between the first and the last petal. Like this one.

And make a sl st, then ch 4 and sl st again to the next in between the petals.

Make the all around and you will end up again with 6 small loops, a little bigger than the previous one. This is where we are going to make our second set of petals for the flower again.

Then sl st in the loop, ch 1, dc 7 into the loop, ch 1 and sl st back into the loop.

Make the petals around until you will have 6 a little bit bigger petals on the second row of your flowers.

This is how your flower will look like. Then ch 1 and sl st on any st you can find at the back of your flower just to add up some height just before you continue to work on your next flower again.

The after that. Repeat all the process once again until you reached the desired length of your flower wreath.

This is how it looks like with crochet thread.

And now for the leaves. You will just have to chain whatever length you like and attached your chain to the flower wreath and make some small leaves. For the leaves I only chain 5, sc in 2nd st from the hook, hdc next, hdc again in next and sc in the last chain, then sl st back to the "stem" of your wreath... You can just place the leaves anywhere and chain whatever you like, for this flower, in every chain 12 I make a leaf.

That's me modeling the wreath. Excuse my gray hairs.. hehehe.

Flowers

While almost half of the whole world is now getting colder, here in the Philippines it is still hot as summer. But sometimes the cold winds blow also. I really wish I could make all those beautiful Autumn outfit, I love the colors of autumn. But I don't know what to do with them if I will make one it's too hot for a chunky cowl or even an ear warmer.

It's no wonder why I cannot find much chunky yarn here in our country. It's no use for us here. The most popular yarns we have here are made of cotton. I even grow up thinking that I can only use crochet thread for crocheting, never thought that a yarn can make a lot of difference and would open a lot of possibilities on crocheting. So you might still wonder why I am not making anything for the coming cold for it never gets here.

So today I am making flowers. Yes! even if spring is so far away I can still make flowers and it is my most demanded project so far. As much as I hate to work with crochet thread, I get yarn burn on my finger all the time, I have no choice because they look so lovely especially if you are making flowers. Below are some crocheted flowers I have found around the web and also later I'll be posting about my flower wreath and how I did it.

So here are my TOP 10 beautiful flowers around the web. So far these flowers are the ones that really caught my eye and all of them are free pattern as of writing.

Bobble Beanie

I've always wanted to make bobble stitches. It's so nice although it consumes much yarn but I love it. I tried to make a bobble bag but failed and ended frogging everything. This Bobble Beanie would be my first ever project using bobble stitches.

Materials:

Gantsilyo Guru's Bulky Cashmere Blend in Marigold
Gantsilyo Guru's Bulky Cashmere Blend in Pine
Crochet hook - 6.00mm/ J10
Tapestry Needle
Scissors

Size - Adult size

Stitches Used:

st(s) - stitch(es)
ch - chain
sc- single crochet
dc - double crochet
dc2tog - double crochet two together
Bobble Stitch or dc5tog - double crochet 5 together
sl st- slip stitch

Instructions

* Note: In making the band of the beanie we are working here on back loops only.

Row 1 . With Pine color Chain 8, sc in back loop only in second chain from the hook. SC all the way till end only in back loop (7 sc). Chain 1 and turn.

Row 2. SC in first st on the back loop only ( since you are working now in the wrong side, this back loop I am talking about is the same back loop when you are working on the right side. in this row this loop is the one in front of you, but still the back loop on the right side. I hope you get what I mean :)) SC all the way till end only in back loop. Chain 1 and turn.

Row 3. Right side. SC in first st, sc all the way till end. (7 sc). Chain 1 and turn.

Row 4-52. Just repeat Row 2 and 3. Ending up with Row 2.

Row 53. Join both ends of the band by slip stitching together, wrong sided facing each other. Sl st the loops that are free or the front loops. Chain 1.

Making the beanie up:

Round 1. Sc all the way around. (52 sc's) then change to Marigold. Chain 1

Round 2. Turn (working on the wrong side), sc the last stitch from the previous round. *Make a bobble st in next st or dc5tog. Sc in next 3 sts* Repeat all the way around ending with just 2 sc in the last stitches. Chain 1 and turn. (right side). We are working in the wrong side since the bobble stitches, bobbles on the wrong side.

Round 3. Chain 4, dc in same st skip 2 sts, *dc in next chain 1, dc in same st, skip 2 sts.* Repeat all the way around. Sl st on top of chain 3.

Round 4. Chain 4, dc in chain 1 space, *dc, chain 1, dc in chain 1 space.* Repeat all the way around. Sl st on top of chain 3.

Round 5. Chain 1, sc in each st around. Join chain 1.

Round 6. Turn (working on the wrong side), sc the last stitch from the previous round, sc in the next. *Make a bobble st in next st or dc5tog. Sc in next 3 sts* Repeat all the way around ending with just a 1 sc. Chain 1 and turn. (right side).

Round 7. Round 3. Chain 4, dc in same st skip 2 sts, *dc in next chain 1, dc in same st, skip 2 sts.* Repeat all the way around. Sl st on top of chain 3.

Round 8. Chain 4, dc in chain 1 space, *dc, chain 1, dc in chain 1 space.* Repeat all the way around. Sl st on top of chain 3.

Round 9. Chain 1, sc in each st around. Join chain 1.

Round 10-17 . Repeat round 2-9.

Round 18. Chain 4, *dc2tog, with the first leg of the dc2tog in chain 1 space of the previous round, and the other leg on the next chain 1 space*. Repeat all the way around. Join with a sl st. Chain 1.

Round 19. Sc in each st around. Join chain 1. Fasten off leaving a long tail.

With your tapestry needle, sew all the stitches and pull them together to close the hat.

Make a small pompom using the Pine colored yarn. There are many ways to make a pompom. I did mine with a pompom maker, the smallest pompom maker I have. But if you don't have a pompom maker here is a great tutorial from Repeat Crafter Me - here.

Red Ribbon Baby Shoes

I never had a baby girl. I got two wonderful boys! Just as I wished for. But my sister keeps telling me that I should have a baby girl because I am always making little things for little girls. I don't know why but I do love to make this little things for little girls, but to be honest ever since the day I dreamed of having babies, all I wished for is to have boys. But I do have nieces, so all those things I made are for them. But this particular shoes that I made has no owner yet, my nieces are past the baby stages already. So this Red Ribbon baby shoes is waiting for it's owner to arrive.

Materials:

Cotton Thread Size 3. Like Aunt Lydias Fashion Crochet 3 in Scarlet and White
Crochet Hook C (2.5mm)
Pearl Beads as buttons
Tapestry Needle
Scissors

Size: Fits 0-6 moths. Size adjustment for 6-12 months are in ( ).

Sole Measurements:

0-6 months - 10cm
6-12 month - 12 cm

Stitches Used:

st(s) - stitch(es)
ch - chain
sc - single crochet
hdc - half double crochet
dc - double crochet
sc2tog - single crochet 2 together
hdc2tog - half double crochet 2 together
sl st - slip stitch

Instructions:

Round 1. With the Scarlet yarn, ch 18 (21) plus 3. Dc in the 4th ch from the hook, 1 dc in the next 13(16) sts, dc 5 in the last ch. Then let's continue to work on the opposite side on the foundation chains. 1 Dc in the next 13 (16) sts, 2 dc in the last ch. Sl st in the first dc.

Round 2. Chain 1, hdc 2 in the first st. Hdc in the next 13 (16) sts. Hdc 2 in the next 5 sts, hdc in the next 13 (16) sts, hdc 2 in each of the last 2 sts. Sl in the first hdc.

Round 3. Chain 1, hdc in the first st, hdc 2 in the next st. Hdc in the next 13 (16) sts.,*hdc 1 in the next st., hdc 2 into the next st* repeat 5 times. Hdc in the next 13 (16) sts, *hdc 1 , hdc 2 into the next st* repeat twice. Sl st in the first st of this round

Round 4. Chain 1, 1 hdc in each of the first 2 sts, hdc 2 in the next st. Hdc in the next 13 (16) sts., *hdc 1 in the next 2 sts, hdc 2 into the next st* repeat 5 times. Hdc in the nex 13 (16) sts, *hdc into the next 2 sts, hdc 2 in the next st*. Repeat twice. Sl st in the first st of this round.

Round 5. Chain 1, sc all the way on the back loops only of the previous round. Sl st in the first st of this round.

Round 6. Chain 2, dc on both loops all the way till the last st. Sl st in the first st of this round.

Round 7. Chain 1 , sc2tog, hdc 15 (18) in the next sts. *hdc in the next 2 sts, hdc2tog* repeat 5 times. Hdc 13 (16), *hdc in the next 2 sts, hdc2tog* repeat twice. Sl st in the first st of this round.

Round 8. Chain 1, hdc in the next 16 (19), *hdc, hdc2tog* repeat 5 times. Hdc 19 (22). Sl st in the first st of this round.

Round 9. (right shoe) Chain1, sc 12 (15), then Chain 10 plus 8, then sl st on the 8th st from the hook to form a loop. Then sc 10 all the way back to the top of the shoes. This will be your strap with a buttonhole. Continue to sc 5, then sc2tog 5 times. Then sc 16 (19), sl st in the first st of this round.

Round 9 (left shoe). Chain 1, sc 16 (19), sc2tog five times, sc 5. Chain 10 plus 8, sl st on the 8th chain, sc 10 down to the top of the shoe. Continue to sc 12 (15). Sl st in the first st of this round.

Round 10. Attached your white thread at the beginning of Round 9 with a sl st. Chain 1 and SC all the way up to your straps to your buttonhole. When you reach the buttonhole make 15 sc into the button hole and continue to sc down until the end. Sl st in the first st of this round.

Ribbon:

Row 1. Chain 7, sc in the 2nd st from the hook. sc to end. Chain 1 and turn.

Row 2. Chain1, sc to end. Chain 1 and turn. Repeat this process until row 38.

Row 3-38. Same sa Row 2.

Join both end of the ribbon by sc both ends together. Fasten all ends.

Fold the ribbon and find the center of it. I make the center the one where the two ends are sc together. Wrap them with the white thread. And attached them into the shoes by sewing. Just like the one in the picture below.

I attached a big pearl bead as a button. I don't exactly know the size of this bead. But it firmly fits the buttonhole. Then weave all ends and you're done!
